Iota / Yod = Iota (9th Greek letter), Yod (10th Hebrew letter)

iota, a small letter of the Greek alphabet, used in the NT (like yod, the Hebrew or rather Aramaic letter which was the smallest of all) to indicate the smallest part.

In verse 18, the word “jot” is translated from the Greek word “iota” (ἰῶτα Strong’s Word G2503). “Iota” ι is the 9th letter of the Greek alphabet. It is strikingly similar to the Hebrew letter “Yod” y. If we contrast the hook at the end of the Iota with the Yod, the resemblance is brought to light.

For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away,

not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen,

The Greek alphabet is actually derived from the Paleo-Hebrew/Phoenician form of the Hebrew alphabet. On a similar token, the Latin alphabet is derived from the Greek alphabet.
