Beria: Book of Acts – Paul’s Journey

Acts 17:10-11

As soon as night had fallen, the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went into the Jewish synagogue. 11Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.

BEREANS RESIST DECEPTION, ACTS 17 & BECOMING A STUDENT OF THE SCRIPTURES TO DEFEND DOCTRINE

The BIBLE is our TEXTBOOK, the LAND is our CLASSROOM, and the SPIRIT is our TEACHER?

Berea (Beroea; Modern Verria or Verroia) is located about 47 mil. [75 km.] west of Thessaloniki — about a three day walk. Paul, Silas, and Timothy came here after having been driven out of Thessalonica. Here their message was well received as the Jews examined the scriptures daily to see if their message was true (Acts 17:11). Many Jews and Greeks — women and men — were converted to the new faith, but Jews from Thessalonica came to Berea and as a result, Paul left for Athens.
Among the remains pertaining to Paul’s visit to Berea are commemorative mosaics, a street from the Roman Period, and possibly the location of the synagogue of Berea.
